As a part of the MIT STEAM Challenge for Term 2, our Year 7 students delved into the world of animal adaptations through a technological lens.

How could they use technology to represent the super abilities of creatures found in the natural world? Especially when some of these abilities include superhuman strength, invisibility and natural generation of light. Our year 7’s rose to the challenge in dramatic fashion, using essential STEAM skills including creativity, collaboration and problem solving we saw robotic ants with lifting mechanisms and functional dragonfly drones made from LEGO. Programmed Micro:bits and Arduino microcontrollers were used to create deep sea bioluminescent creatures as well as camouflaged mimic octopuses and chameleons. What an amazing job our year 7’s did at learning how to use these complex technologies through collaborative creativity!
