Five reasons why teenagers are suffering from anxiety

In today's society young people are affected by the emergence of social media platforms and the many pressures that come with living in the digital age. Young people are exposed to more anxiety due to a cultivation of comparison and perfection much more than other generations in the past.

There are many reasons why teenagers can develop anxiety disorders. These are some of them:

  1. Toxic happiness: which is when most kids and teens are taught that they must be happy all the time.
  2. Escaping through technology: Constant access to internet presents many challenges for teenagers.
  3. Not having enough time to play: Unstructured play teaches children important skills such as conflict resolution.
  4. Giving children excessive praise: Too much praise often produces the opposite effect.
  5. Family dynamics being out of sync: Children’s anxiety levels can go if the rules of the house are not clear.

The good news is that children’s anxiety is highly treatable and preventable.
