Dear Families,

Words from Primary | 23 September 2022 | CDS Costa Rica - words-from-primary

We’ve had a full week of teaching and learning. Students participated in experiential learning through acting out skits, visiting our ES makerspace, engaging in projects, and building connections with the community during field trips. We’re off to a great school year!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend and Shana Tova to our families who will be celebrating Rosh Hashanah!

Parent Rep Meeting

We will have our monthly Parent Rep meeting on Wednesday, September 28th at 8:30 am. It will be held in the LRC. We will review upcoming events, share academic updates, and get to know each other better. All are welcome!

Field Trips

Our kinder students visited the Museo de Ciencias Naturales La Salle where they observed different animal habitats and learned about animal families. They were able to observe reconstructed habitats and talk about how the different animals live and eat. This experience enriched students’ understanding of concepts during their “Needs and Habitats of Living Things” unit.

Our fifth graders visited the Museum of the Jewish Community of Costa Rica to learn about Jewish migration and culture during their unit “People on the Move”. Students were escorted through the museum with very informative and friendly guides. Students also learned about the upcoming holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur while enjoying typical festive foods.

Our Lockdown Drill

Teachers took time to explain the lockdown drill to students in an age-appropriate way, by using our SEL curriculum during morning meetings. Students did an amazing job following directions and getting to a safe space.

MAP Testing

CDS students in Grades 1-8 will take the Fall MAP Assessment beginning on October 4. This standardized assessment will assess students’ literacy and math skills and is given twice per year. Please refer to the two-week testing schedule below.  If a student is absent during a scheduled MAP testing session, he/she can make up the test on another date.

Students in grades 1-5 will use school-issued devices for the MAP assessment.  Additional information and reminders will be shared in next week’s Family Update.
