Mr. Brian Balding
Secondary Principal
Dear Secondary Families,
We had a great 2nd week here at the Secondary level! Students are still adjusting schedules, but at this point, our drop/add period is coming to a close. We are excited to meet parents at the upcoming open house, you can expect a schedule of sessions to come home on Tuesday. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!
All students should now be on Office 365. As the staff continues to become more familiar with its functions, we will be able to give parents instructions on how to access information about their student's classes. Students are using the Office to engage teachers in their classes.
We are excited to host our all-school Open House on August 31 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Please check the General Information section of this newsletter for more detailed information.
All 6-8 grade students learned about the Global Games at an assembly this past week. In addition to the information that you can access in the Athletics section of this Newsletter, we are excited to share that CDS will be hosting the Junior Global Games for 6th graders in March 2023. More information to come!!
We are excited to increase the clubs that our secondary students can participate in this year. Clubs will meet at lunch and many will provide the opportunity for Middle and High School students to participate together, which we are also very excited about. Parents will get a first look at the list of club options at the August 31 Open House and students will have an opportunity to sign up in the next couple of weeks.
Just a reminder that we gave students a grace period on the dress code that will end this Friday. Beginning next Monday the dress code that was communicated at the beginning of the year will be enforced. Students have needed the most grace with getting navy blue pants/shorts/leggings and hoodies that are black, blue, grey, or white and have a small logo. Our store does stock CDS hoodies if you need one.

CDS would like to congratulate 9th-grade students Valentina and Isabel for winning FIRST place in Cadena Initiative's Annual Costa Rica Regional Competition.
Cadena Initiative is a contest of ideas where students propose a solution to respond to a humanitarian crisis in a more effective way. Valentina and Isabel worked very hard during the 2021-2022 school year.
