Dear CDS Families,
I’d like to highlight for you just a few of the amazing projects and events that our dedicated students and teachers have created over the past few weeks during our hybrid school program. They truly showcase the global-thinking mindset that we foster at CDS.
A group of our Spanish teachers from both our primary and secondary divisions, including Adriana Jimenez, Adriana Vega, Andrea Batres, Ileana Montero, Olany Zuniga, and Marlene Carvajal and their students, created a lovely collection of activities about Costa Rica, as the first stop of the Global World Tour found here on Global Campus. Please have your child log in to Global Campus to check out these engaging activities where we share our beautiful school, country, and culture across our global schools network.
I was honored to speak at our first ever virtual CDS Model United Nations event, CDSIMUN. Supported by MUN advisor, Natalie Vacirca, the event was completely student-run and organized by: Jorge Herdocia, Jose Nicolas Marin, Bryan Ng, Sydney Winter, Jacobo Guzowski, Pia Hernandez, Luis Javier Chasi, and Adrian Carillo. During the conference, over 100 delegates representing 19 schools from 10 different countries, came together to engage in debate and to collaboratively propose solutions to critical issues facing our global community.
And, this past week, our CDS chapter of the National Honor Society, supported by advisors Natalie Vacirca and Amy De Jong, formally inducted 60 students, recognizing the NHS cohorts from 2020 and 2021! NHS President Jacobo Guzowski spoke to inductees, encouraging them to engage in service and providing an overview of the different ways to do so through membership in the NHS.
Finally, the HS students, organized by Student Council President, Sydney Winter and NHS President, Jaco Guzowski, created a spectacular Eco Art event in collaboration with art teacher Xavier Villafranca. This included an Eco Fashion Show as well as an Eco Art Show of recycled and reused materials created by 9th-12th grade students. Please take a moment to have a virtual walk through the Eco Art Show. In the virtual gallery, you can move along the gallery space on your own or take a virtual tour that will guide you to all the students’ works. You can select on the artwork for more information. Both the fashion show and art gallery provide a stunning display of our CDS students’ creative talents and ecological awareness.
Our CDS students and teachers are unsurpassed as dedicated and vibrant contributors to global understanding and global problem-solving!
Have a safe and relaxing weekend.
Warm regards,
Dr. Scott Adams
