Words from our Director

Dear CDS Families,  Words from our Director | October 2020 | CDS Costa Rica - words-from-our-director

I hope you and your family remain well and are safe and healthy.

As we change from September to October and complete seven weeks of our virtual school experience, I wish to share a status update with you and also address an issue about sports.

Our campus closure, as required by the Ministries of Health and Education, continues to be through the month of December, which for CDS is through the first semester that ends on December 18. We continue to monitor the agencies and if there’s any change to that date, we’ll be sure to let everyone in the CDS community know. We would love to have our students back on campus as soon as possible!

We have applied, through the Ministry of Health, for special permission to open the equivalent of a daycare for our youngest students in grades PK - Grade 1. That application is in process and we hope to receive an answer in the next few weeks. If approved, we will establish an opening date and meet with PK - Grade 1 parents to go over all of the details.

In a few conversations and meetings with parents this week, the issue of sports came up because some heard that other local schools were having sports on their campuses. I checked with Director colleagues and learned that one school was having their sports facilities used by private sports clubs for training or tournaments, but not for school-based teams to practice or train. My understanding is that campuses remain closed to students, but I’ll investigate further to see what might be possible, if anything, for our CDS athletes.

As always, please share any questions you have with me at cds_director@cds.ed.cr.

Wishing you a fantastic weekend!

With Panther Pride,
