Jose Luis Menendez
Secondary Principal
I continue to be blown away by our commitment to learning virtually by all. Our teachers continue to engage students challenging them in their learning while also committing themselves to providing the best instruction to deliver our curriculum.
I’m excited for our virtual open house meetings this coming week and am looking forward to seeing everyone virtually next week.
Finally, please read through each of these sections to be fully informed of our happenings in the Secondary!
Virtual Open House September 8 & 10
Each of you should have received an email from me with details about the date and time for our virtual Open House in the Middle and High Schools. We will begin each Open House at 5pm with a Welcome Session before following your student’s schedule. We will use this link to begin.
MS Open House: Tuesday, September 8 at 5pm
HS Open House: Thursday, September 10 at 5pm
Attendance
Please remember to call in to the MS and HS offices when a student will not be logging in to classes. We have begun sending weekly attendance reports to parents regarding student’s weekly attendance. If there is an error in the weekly report, please contact us so that we can correct it. We hope this report will help you keep track of attendance and how many classes are missed.
With classes meeting every other day, it is important that students attend their classes since they wouldn’t see those classes the next day. I thank you for your attention to helping us monitor students' attendance.
We want your feedback
Now that we have been in virtual classes for three full weeks now, we would like to receive some initial feedback from your perspective as a parent on how we are doing. If you have a few minutes, please go to this link and complete our VSE Survey. We are also gathering feedback from our students as well. We want to be able to adjust where we can, especially as it relates to instructional practices in delivering our curriculum.
Secondary Student Spotlight: Jacobo Guzowski ‘21
Every now and then, I will spotlight students who are doing amazing things in and outside of the classroom.
Jacobo Guzowski is a senior who has a passion for environmental issues facing Costa Rica and the world. Jaco founded a non-profit a few years ago called IMPACTO which focuses on combating environmental issues through plastic reduction, planting trees, beach clean-ups and now partnering with different organizations to develop a reusable face mask for Costa Ricans at an affordable price. Jaco has been working with Masksafe, JLANG, a non-profit called Asociación Costa Rica por Siempre to help produce a reusable facemask. Below are some of the works Jaco has been helping with in launching this product. You can view the reusable masks here.
