At BSKL we are proud of being an all-through school and are always looking for new opportunities for collaboration amongst our strong student community.
One of the huge benefits of being a large international through-school is our fantastic student community and at BSKL we take every opportunity to encourage and support peer collaboration across both the schools. This term, a number of our secondary students between Years 7-10 have kindly volunteered their lunchtimes to spend time leading play and games with our Early Years and Key Stage One children.
The secondary students also participated in after school sessions with Miss Poyser, Mrs Humphrey and Mrs Gardener-Meadows to receive training and discuss their activity ideas. During these meetings, the students also received input about ways to apply the restorative approaches implemented at BSKL to support younger children with developing their social skills, independence and acting inline with our school values.
It has been wonderful to observe the different ages of students engaging so well together and lots of happy memories have been made by all involved. The secondary students have done a fantastic job of encouraging the primary pupils to participate in a range of exciting new playtime opportunities including art and craft, sports games and role play. We are very proud of them all for offering their time and service to the BSKL community.
Aiden in Reception explained that “It is exciting when the big children come to play with us and I like it when we play running tag game.”, whilst Zi Zhi, Year 1 said “I really enjoy the older children helping me with origami, it is so fun!” The secondary students also found the sessions enjoyable, with Zi Ha, Year 9 saying “The children have made me laugh and made my lunchtimes more enjoyable” and Nikkita, Year 8 agreed, sharing that “Playing with the younger children made my day better”.
Miss Poyser, Mrs Humphrey and Mrs Gardener-Meadows would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to all the secondary students for their volunteering their time and being a credit to BSKL.
