The aim of our market is to promote sustainable living and with this in mind, some of our BSKL students will be fundraising for various charities and environmental organisations.
- Ollie and James from Year 2, and Howie from Year 6, will host a bake sale to raise funds for the Lost Food Project.
- Year 5 student Jenna Liew and two parent volunteers will host an ‘Adopt a Turtle’ stall and will also provide a small token of appreciation for the support along with a certification. These turtles will be released into the Kemaman River.
- Toy Drive by Year 6 students, Dashil Regan and Ethan Mu, are receiving toy donations and will also be doing a lucky draw. They support the work of Toy Library and Play Unlimited.
- Zac and Sasha Philips, siblings from Year 7 and 9 respectively, will sell bags, caps and Tee-shirts as well as kids balloons in support of the Malayan Tiger.
Star Zian Yi, in Year 10 will sell hand craft goods made by Orang Asli.
- Year 12 students from The Eternal Social Enterprise sell bracelets to support the work of an organisation they’re partnered with, Animal Projects and Environmental Education (APE). Show your support by purchasing one of their bracelets so they can reach their goal of helping plant a minimum of 25 trees.
- Keira Heys, Eleanor Gatenby and Lizzy from Y12 will run a second-had clothing sale to raise funds for JTP.
We have also invited 4 outside vendors who run local sustainable businesses:
- Play Unlimited sells secondhand toys and books.
- Greater Action sells items made from up-cycled fabrics. We will collect textiles for them during the week before in Secondary and on the day itself at the market.
- Refiller Mobile, a zero-waste store on wheels, provides house cleaning products in bulk, dried foods, and hygiene products. Bring Your Own containers to buy environmentally friendly products for the house. You will see them parked at the Lower Hill Campus Lobby.
- Yee Button is a family business that up-cycles old denim, leather and other fabric to create something new using their sewing, leather work and patchwork skills. Catch them at BSKL for a workshop at the Green Market.
We look forward to welcoming all parents to come and support our first Green Market initiative. Please take note that it is a ‘No Single Use Plastic’; we encourage parents and students to bring reusable bags.
Warmest regards,
