Rodney-Springer

Rodney is an experienced teacher and leader in secondary schools. With over 20 years of teaching experience in international settings and Australia, Rodney is excited to become a part of the school community at BSG.

Having worked in multiple schools across China, including Ningbo, Guangzhou, Suzhou, and now returning to Guangzhou from Melbourne, Rodney brings a wealth of diverse experiences to his new role. He has recently joined BSG along with his two children and his non-teaching wife, making it a family affair.

Rodney's educational background includes a major in Chemistry and Physics from universities in Melbourne. He later pursued a master’s degree in environmental engineering at the University of Melbourne. Throughout his career, he has worked in various scientific, engineering, and medical industries, which allows him to bring real-world practical applications of mathematics and the sciences to his secondary students both inside and outside the classroom.

In 2003, upon establishing roots in Shanghai, Rodney's journey directed him toward a career in teaching within international schools. Since joining in August 2024, Rodney has been actively working to familiarize himself with all students at BSG, making it his objective to foster a positive and engaging learning environment. Rodney takes great joy in supporting children, helping them discover and utilize their strengths while identifying areas for improvement. Through this approach, he aims to empower his students to make positive contributions to both local and global opportunities.

Beyond academics, Rodney is an active sports enthusiast. He participates in various sports, with a particular passion for AFL (St. Kilda), cricket (Australia 1 - England 0 in the 2023 Ashes), tennis, swimming, and cycling. He is a registered and trained AustSwim swimming and water safety instructor. In his spare time, Rodney enjoys playing the acoustic guitar and drums, expressing his creative side.
