BSG Guangzhou Scholarships 2024/25
From the 16th to the 20th of May, the British School Guangzhou had the incredible opportunity to participate in this year’s FOBISIA Intermediate Choir and Orchestral Festival held at the British School Jakarta. This event brought together 17 international schools from the FOBISIA Network, with an impressive gathering of over 200 students and is part of BSG’s calendar of global events and expeditions that also includes a UNICEF conference in the USA, community support in Tanzania, outward bounds in Switzerland, STEAM trips to MIT in Boston, and regional events across the Nord Anglia network of international schools in China.
Our school was represented by nine talented secondary school students from Year 7 to Year 9. Throughout the 3 days of the festival, students took part in a number of Indonesian-themed cultural workshops, attended captivating evening concerts, and showcased their skills in the festival choir and orchestra performances at the grand FOBISIA Gala.
Reflecting on their experience, our students described the festival as fun, amazing, and enlightening. All students appreciated the opportunity to connect with peers from different schools within the FOBISIA network, learn about a new culture, while showcasing their musical talents and shared passion for music. The powerful and enriching process of rehearsing and performing as part of a Symphony Orchestra and full SATB Choir during the festival is an experience like no other, which students will remember as a highlight of the music calendar in secondary school. Students are looking forward to next year's festival which will be hosted by the Bangkok Prep and Secondary International School.
On Wednesday 17th April, BSG held the second Nord Anglia Chess Tournament, inviting schools from around Guangzhou to compete against each other.
This term, Year 6 children participated in the Juilliard Film Music Competition 2024 for their end of year composition project.
There has been a buzz about books at BSG this week as we have held our annual Book Week across our campuses. It has been fantastic to celebrate our love of reading throughout the week by engaging in activities such as storytelling and exploring new books, allowing our imagination to wonder to far off lands.
