BA, PGCE, MEd, CELTA
Sonia holds a Bachelors of Arts in English from the Sorbonne University as well as a PGCE and Masters of Education from the University of Nottingham. Her dissertation focussed on providing International School teachers with solutions and strategies to support EAL learners in the classroom. Sonia also completed a CELTA qualification, further enhancing her understanding of teaching English to multilingual students.
Sonia’s entire career has taken place in the International School circuit, teaching English, French and then Primary homeroom first in Vietnam, then in Malaysia, Brazil and Myanmar. She moved into Primary Leadership while working with the Nord Anglia group in Brazil. This is where Sonia obtained her Middle Leadership certification and was Head of Key Stage for 4 years before continuing with this role in Myanmar where she was also in charge of Professional Development and EAL training for staff.
Sonia visited China extensively in 2006, and was always fascinated by the vibrancy, culture and history of Beijing, which prompted her decision to move there in 2024. She is excited to join BSB as Head of Primary EAL and she plans on using her considerable teaching and leadership experience as well as her own multicultural and multilingual background to provide the best EAL provision to BSB students.
Sonia is moving to Beijing with her teenage son. They are both avid travelers, and they love to explore new places at the weekends and during the holidays.
