Shanaz graduated with a BSc Hons in Sport and Exercise Science from Coventry University, UK. She went on to complete her Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Secondary Physical Education at Newman University, UK.
Shanaz is an experienced physical education teacher of more than 10 years and has worked in the UK, Middle East and now China. She started her teaching career as a cover supervisor teacher in 2011 working in the centre of Birmingham, the town where she grew up in. Recognising her passion she quickly pursued her career goals to become a physical education teacher in 2013. After qualifying as a physical education teacher, Shanaz taught in various schools in Staffordshire and the West Midlands. She gained numerous coaching qualifications to support her development as a sports teacher.
Shanaz wanted to find a school that care about their students and encourage the development of staff. Having heard so many positives about BSB, she planned a visit and was impressed with the school and students. It was a very easy decision regardless of having to change to a colder climate. She is excited and cannot wait to start her journey at BSB in August 2024.
Shanaz’s favourite aspect about teaching PE is when students who don’t like PE share that they now love PE because of how she has taught them. Seeing genuine excitement on students faces in lessons motivates her.
Shanaz has grown up playing sport, in particular basketball. She played for 2 national teams - one representing her city Birmingham, and the other in Leicestershire. She has played in numerous teams as well at a local level and with friends. Shanaz said that basketball gave her confidence, freedom and friendship. She loved playing for her city because it gave her a sense of belonging and the ability to represent a minority in her community.
Shanaz also enjoys surfing and skiing and loves to travel. She has enjoyed growing and learning from different cultural experiences, and enjoys good food and good company.
