Shahida-Kandhai

Ed.dip, SACE, BSc

Shadhia's teaching career began about 19 years ago after graduating with distinctions in Mathematics and Natural Science from Springfield College of Education in Durban, South Africa. She taught Senior Primary Math & Science in South African Public Schools for a period of 3 Years, thereafter securing herself a KS3 & KS4 Math & Science teaching post at a comprehensive high school in Surrey, England.

During her time in England, she also completed my BSc (Open) Degree major in Animal Physiology and Infectious Diseases and had the opportunity to complete her practical component at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. After 5 years of working in England, Shahida's family returned to South Africa where she taught for a further 5 years. In 2013, they moved to Suzhou, China where she taught IGCSE & A-Level Biology and IGCSE & As-Level Math at an International High School catering for Chinese students aiming to study at top Universities abroad.

Shahida considers herself to be a truly International Teacher having taught such diverse group of students and different curriculae, the CAIE Curriculum is the one which she's most experienced at. At this juncture in her teaching career, she wishes to further her teaching experience in IB. Teaching at BSB Shunyi in 2019 has afforded her the opportunity to gain valuable experience teaching the IB Curriculum and in turn, she will be able to use her wealth of teaching experience and knowledge to continue ensuring academic excellence in her students.

Her teaching career has afforded the opportunity for Shahida's family to travel, live, school and work in 3 different continents of the world. Her children are typically “third culture kids” and therefore as a parent and teacher, she is fully aware of the aspirations and challenges facing children who are away from their “motherland”. Travelling does afford one the opportunity to new experiences and she believes this is one of the things she's most passionate about.
