BA (Hons) PGCE
Rachel has a BA Hons in English from Brunel University, London and completed a PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Hertfordshire in 2005. Having taught for seventeen years in both UK and international schools, her experience has included teaching in the English curriculum and IB PYP framework. Initially, she was a Primary teacher and then later transitioned to Head of English for KS2/KS3. Following this, she decided to pursue overseas opportunities in international schools where she has worked across the Primary phases in Malaysia, Russia and Singapore. In her most recent position in Singapore, she was the English Coordinator for Early Childhood and Primary and this role involved developing teaching and learning pedagogy, assessment and resources in a rapidly expanding school.
In the classroom, Rachel aims to develop reflective learners by establishing an inclusive and nurturing learning environment, encouraging discussion and providing opportunities for inquiry-based learning. Furthermore, she believes that education should focus on the whole child whilst developing their self-expectations, confidence and stamina. She is excited to join BSB Shunyi in August 2023 and look forward to being a part of new experiences, ideas and perspectives within the international community.
Rachel enjoys reading - fiction and current affairs. She also likes to travel and experience other cultures. She often watches a variety of films and TV shows from other countries and cultures. Rachel's son is also attending BSB Shunyi and they spend time doing the usual family things.
