Neil Corkery

Year 3 Teacher, Primary Art Leader
Neil Corkery - Neil-Corkery

BA, Post Graduate Diplomas

Neil graduated from Wolverhampton University in Fine Art and went onto undertaking Post Graduate Diplomas in Building Surveying (Reading University) and Architectural Stone Conservation (Bournemouth University). From there he worked as a Stone Conservator, restoring/conserving historic/listed buildings throughout the UK including Salisbury Cathedral, Westminster Abby, Cardiff Castle and Kensington Palace. During this time he became involved in teaching these subjects. He enjoyed teaching so much this led onto him qualifying as a fulltime teacher.

During his 15 years as a professional teacher, he has been lucky enough to experience and gain in-depth knowledge of working in Key Stage 1 to 4. As a practising artist, he has worked as an Art Specialist in the UK, going around schools helping implement creative skills to enrich the curriculum and optimise learning. This has led to many of his students winning prestigious national art prices, including the NASUWT UK Primary Art Award in 2015.

Neil's students tell him that he is an inspirational and very funny teacher and although he would not say this himself, he is too polite to contradict them. He loves teaching and feel honoured and lucky to be able to help young people aspire to exceed their goals and ambitions.

He is a very proud father of 2 children. Joseph, who is 17 and studying film/video making and Molly, who is 21 and teaching (both in the UK). Wanting a new challenge to continue his development as a professional teacher, combined with his love of travelling around Asia, Neil decided to teach overseas in China. He applied to Nord Anglia because of their reputation as outstanding providers of education around the world and they invited Neil to teach at BSB Shunyi in 2017.
