New Learnings in the New School Year 2024

New Learnings in the New School Year 2024 - New Learnings in the New School Year 2024

What a busy first week! We are delighted to welcome our students on the first day of school 19th August. There have been many welcome activities in the first few weeks designed to ease students into the new school year and the teachers have done a marvellous job welcoming both new and returning students.

Jayne Needham, Principal said "As an inclusive British international school in Beijing, we provide an outstanding learning environment for our students that enables the growth of well-rounded characters. Our students’ diverse experiences and excellent academic outcomes prepare them to be leaders in our ever-changing world."

Everyone is so excited to explore the newly renovated learning spaces with their classmates such as the new Reading Corners, outdoor Early Years area and our state-of-the art Theatre. Every year, our school makes ongoing investments in creating age-appropriate spaces, integrating world-class technology in the classroom and best-in-class teaching resources to stimulate each student’s creativity and lifelong love of learning.

Early Years

Our youngest learners are settling in and confident to explore! Returning children were quick to pick up where they left off and enjoyed showing our new students around the classroom. They really like to explore the new outdoor learning area; digging deep in the sand, building with no limits and having an open space to run end to end.

Year 4

In the first few weeks of the new school year, Year 4 focus on activities that we can connect with one another, build friendships, and develop essential social skills. In Maths sessions, students work together using maths manipulatives to represent numbers up to 999. This hands-on approach not only enhances their mathematical skills but also reinforces the importance of teamwork and communication.

We are proud of the progress our students have made in just one week. We are looking forward to a year full of opportunities and challenges to motivate our learners to be the best that they can be.

Year 12 IB CAS project - Year 7 Scavenger Hunt

Our new Year 7 students participated in a Scavenger Hunt to discover all about their new Secondary School environment. They met their new teachers, challenged to learn new words, solved equations and searched for a range of different items around school. Well done to our Year 12 IB Diploma students who organised this Scavenger Hunt as part of their IB CAS project.

Year 12 IB students KaKi commented that "The planning process was quite smooth and everyone helped each other out. The actual Scavenger Hunt went well as the Year 7s were cooperative and we made it through the entire building and introduced them to the classrooms. It was both beneficial for them and us as it helped us gain the experience of initiating and planning a CAS project which help us in our future study journey. I feel fulfilled through the activity since I  have provided help to the Year 7s for them to better transition into secondary life."

Daniel Bell, the new CAS Coordinator said "I'm so impressed with what both year groups were able to accomplish in a short period of time. I've already met some incredibly dedicated and conscientious Year 12 IB students who have an active interest in helping others which I believe is such a vitally important element of their CAS journeys. Students overcome adversity, worked collaboratively and started their journeys of reflection which is hugely essential as a life-long learner. I am excited to work with such a dynamic group of students throughout and know that the connections made within both year groups will benefit students throughout this academic year."

Both Year 12 and Year 13 students will also be exploring numerous CAS opportunities throughout the year which will be shared frequently on the school's website and social media. We look forward to being able to share their incredible experiences, projects and service learning with you in the coming months.
