Hooray! I'm a First grader!  Our traditional German Primary School GK1 school enrollment ceremony (Einschulungsfeier) was wonderful!

All GK1 students came together with their parents and families in the BSB Shunyi theatre. Many of the existing German Primary School students had rehearsed a great show to welcome our GK1 students. They performed a play and sang songs accompanied by piano and violin. Everybody enjoyed an amazing and fun time together.

Afterwards we follow the tradition of taking school photos, of course with School Cones. The School Cones (Schultüten), sometimes also called Sugar Cones, are a great tradition in Germany! They are wonderfully decorated and creatively made by the students and parents using very large cardboard cones. They are filled with all kinds of important things for school such as pencils, notebooks, erasers and of course often with sweets or small toys as well. The first graders carry their sugar cone with joy! After the ceremony, German Primary School continued to celebrate in school with activities and nice food.

Einschulungsfeier an der BSB, Shunyi

Hurra!

About our BSB German Primary Programme (GPS)

The German Primary Programme (GPS) at BSB Shunyi offers the opportunity for our German-speaking Primary School students from Klasse 1 to Klasse 4 to study core subjects in German following the German Thuringia Curriculum, while integrating into the English National Curriculum with non-core subjects and a variety of whole school activities.

The Thuringia Curriculum is the curriculum used by all German schools in the Northern hemisphere. Core subjects including German, Maths, Topic (Humanities and Science), Art and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) are taught in German. Our talented GPS teachers are qualified with a degree certificate to match German standards and typical German textbooks are used to support the lessons.

We believe that the integration of our GPS into our whole school’s activities is very important for German students to naturally grow in their bilingual abilities. They also partake in music and physical education lessons in English, as part of the English National Curriculum. They attend the weekly assemblies, participate in school productions, and go on field trips in English. We also offer English as an Additional Language (EAL) support and Chinese lessons.
