BSB came together to celebrate Earth Week! This year's theme is “Planet vs Plastic”. It’s a great opportunity for our school community to come together and raise awareness about the issues threatening our planet.
Our students develop social consciousness as an essential part of school life. In collaboration with UNICEF, all BSB students are challenged to participate in ongoing projects on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) regarding social and economic development issues that we hope to collectively achieve by 2030.
“For this International Mother Earth Day, let's remind ourselves - more than ever - that we need a shift to a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet. Let’s promote harmony with nature and the Earth. Join the global movement to restore our world!” – from United Nations https://www.un.org/en/observances/earth-day
See all the exciting activities we did!
Monday – Trashion Show
BSB has our first ever Trashion Show! Thanks to our Primary and Secondary Eco-Committees who organised this event as part of Earth Week to highlight this year's theme of Planet vs Plastic.
Students learnt about the amount of plastic and other materials we use and how important it is to reduce and reuse what we consume. They practised a lot of Design Technology and STEAM curriculum objectives, as well as problem solving and collaboration skills as they created their outfits.
At 2pm the whole school gathered to see the amazing outfits students have created. Each class chose two winning students to walk the catwalk. A judging panel which consisted of teachers, parents and students chose the final winners from the students in the show and we also have live performances from our Years 3-4 Choir and the PTA Choir.
House Food Waste Competition
On Wednesday, everyone wore their house shirts and are ready for a competition to see which house will generate the least amount of food wastage over the course of lunchtime.
Congratulations to our winner - The Saxons!
World Penguin Day
On Friday, we celebrated World Penguin Day to learn how climate change is affecting them and invited everyone to dress like penguins.
Secondary Students are concentrating on writing and studying for their IB Diploma and IGCSE examinations. Primary School also participated in some more activities below.
No Power Hour and No Paper Day
On Tuesday Primary also went electricity free for one hour and on Thursday, it’s “No Paper Day”!
Students learn about how they can contribute in saving the planet and put this into action.
Eco Assemblies
Our Eco-Committee did a wonderful job leading the Primary Assemblies this week, teaching students in different year groups about why it’s important for us to protect the earth and what we can do to reduce pollution.
Change starts with action. We hope that parents and students will be inspired by these activities and take action in making an impact at home and in our daily routines.
