Secondary Week without Walls 2024

We believe that a great education is one that balances academic outcomes, character development and well-being. 

Our Secondary students in Years 7 to 12 went on their week-long residential trip “Week without Walls” in different parts of China this week. Our residential programme is an integral part of the BSB curriculum. It broadens our students’ horizons and help them form lifelong friendships. We ensure that students experience a wide range of engaging and educational activities that include elements of cultural immersion, challenge, and community building.

Year 7 Ningbo

Trip highlights:

• Hike on the Dragon Mountain
• Archery tag and team building games
• Build catapults
• Cycle around a lake
• Climb adventure frames and high ropes activities
• Visit the Old Town and Maritime Silk Road Museum

Year 8 Anji

Trip highlights:

• Rock climbing and high ropes courses
• Bamboo weaving
• Bridge Building challenge and Archery Tag
• 10km hike through mountains
• Visit beautiful creatures in an aquarium
• Kayaking on the lake
• Experiment testing water suitability for drinking

Year 9 Henan

Trip highlights:

• Visit the famous Shaolin Temple
• Learn martial art and Kung Fu
• Hike in mountains
• Visit a local school and interact with the students
• Enjoy artistic activities and learn about local culture and history
• Visit the Longman Grottoes 316-907 AD

Year 10 Fujian

Trip highlights:

• Visit the iconic Tulou Village
• Make their own bamboo bows and arrows in Archery contest
• Hiking in the mountain
• Ferry ride to visit Gulang Yu Island
• Kayaking and standup paddleboarding
• Team building activities such as Laser tag, Beach volleyball, frisbie, football

Year 11 Guilin

Trip highlights:

• Visit Yangshuo’s old town, cultural walk
• Explore local arts and crafts
• Cave exploration
• Hiking and orienteering
• Rock climbing
• Abseiling and Kayaking
• Archery and Catapulting

Year 12 Sanya

Volunteer Service:

Year 12 students spent a morning helping out at a home for children with cerebral palsy and other mental health issues. They helped with cleaning, cooking and lunchtime. They helped the children with physical exercises including a welcome walk in the sunshine. The children really enjoyed the company and care of our team of volunteer helpers, and it was a valuable and rewarding experience for our students and staff alike.
