Does your child know they matter? Studies show many children believe their achievements, not who they are as people, are what matter most to their parents.
Read the latest article published by Nord Anglia’s INSIGHTS magazine “Helping Kids see that they matter for who they are and not what they achieve” by Jenny Anderson. INSIGHT magazine looks at subjects that matter most to young people and their parents when it comes to education.
Our Principal Mrs. Jayne Needham shares her thoughts about this article:
“Jenny Anderson's article is so important for every parent to read. Here at BSB, we have made this year the 'Year of Belonging' and a huge part of creating safety, security and belonging is that we ensure that all of our students know that they matter for who they are.
The shocking statistic that 70% of young adults think their parents valued and appreciated them more when they were successful and more than half said their parents loved them more when they were successful will surely make us all sit up and listen. It is clear that 'mattering' is crucial to adolescents as they create their identity and the idea that parents can make a considerable difference is important. Ultimately, the excellent, practical tips that are given in the article could make a difference to our children.
Enjoy reading it and we look forward to discussing the article further with you!”
