On Wednesday 8th November, the whole school celebrated Call To Earth Day and take actions to help our planet!
In collaboration with UNICEF, all students are challenged to participate in ongoing projects on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) regarding social and economic development issues that we hope to collectively achieve by 2030. Therefore, BSB is proud to support this global event initiated by CNN, joining forces with schools, individuals & organisations around the world to raise awareness of environmental issues & conservation education.
Wear Green for Charity
Our Eco-Committee has initiated various actions to raise awareness of environmental issues including wearing green for donation to charity.
Lesson about Earth Day
During their lessons, students learn and discuss about what we can do to protect the environment.
See posters created by Year 8 French students during their lessons about what Call to Earth Day means to them!
Students created crafts and useful things from recycled materials. Nursery students repurposed tissue rolls by transforming them into personalized pen pots to hold our pens. It was a creative and eco-friendly project that allowed us to contribute to sustainability while showcasing our artistic skills.
GK4 made nice flower pots from plastic bottles, some made a seed station, others designed and put together a birds nest. GK1 enjoyed an art activity with egg carton. All the creative inventions look very nice and are useful and the students now know everything about recycling!
Year 2 students brought in items they would have otherwise discarded. They discussed how these can be made into something purposeful. They made lovely flowers from these material as a way of preserving and protecting the Earth.
Secondary Art students come together and created a wonderful Earth Day Group Art using recycled materials. The canvas was from old books and recycled coffee was used as the brown medium. The artwork shows our beautiful earth stranded in fish nets. The power plug at the bottom gradually morphs into a giant fish net and surrounds the earth, the seal and the turtle are visibly affected by its presence.
We use this day to reflect on the things we do daily to make our life on earth a little bit better. This group artwork was created by many students. Individually, we are not always able to make big changes that impact our earth, but together, we can make our world a better place, one step, or one brush stroke at a time.
Primary Assembly
Our Eco-Committee also did a great job speaking in our Friday Assembly about what each of us can do to help the planet.
No Meat Day and Food Waste House Competition
For lunch on 8th November, students did not eat meat or drink milk to help animals across the world and also to reduce our waste. Our chef Kevin prepared some special plant-based menu and the food was delicious, especially the tofu and vegetarian nuggets.
Primary also had a House Competition on Friday to see which house has the lowest amount of food waste. For Secondary, this was a whole week initiative where food wastes were meausred each day to reduce food waste.
What are your pledges for the planet Earth?

Question for you: What can you pledge for a more eco-friendly environment?
Everyone can make a difference!
