The start of the new school year is fast approaching and we’re looking forward to the first day of school on 1st September! Meanwhile BSB Shunyi has been very busy this week hosting Staff Training Programmes for new and returning teaching staff.
At BSB, we’re proud of our forever-dedicated and inspiring team of international teachers. We recruit only the best, so that you can be confident your child is learning from the world’s most passionate, equipped, and up-to-date educators. Our teachers have a wealth of experience, both in the UK and overseas. All hold UK Qualified Teacher status or equivalent, many have master’s degrees and some have PhD degrees.
First of all, let’s give a warm welcome to all new teachers and teaching assistants who joined BSB Shunyi this school year! They have been participating in an intensive New Staff Induction Programme since Monday 21st August hosted by our School Leaders.
Later in the week, they were joined by our returning staff and together, all teaching staff attended workshops and trainings and shared best practices on delivering high-quality lessons. Teachers in each year group and in their respective curriculum departments set priorities as a team and focus on ways to support our students in all areas, encouraging them to develop a lifelong love of learning.
On 24th August, we were honoured to hear from Dr. Terry Creissen OBE, Managing Director of our NAE China schools. Dr. Creissen reminded us that as teachers, our role is to inspire our students to learn, and motivate them to find out more. We are equipped with unique training materials from our award-winning professional development platform Nord Anglia University, as well as resources from our collaborators, MIT, UNICEF, and Juilliard. As part of the Nord Anglia Education family, we are "greater than the sum of our parts", and we can contribute more and help more people together.
For new staff, it’s also very important that we help them and their family members settle in Beijing. Our HR Team has assisted them in settling in their new home, visiting grocery stores, banks and facilities around the area and also enjoyed a fun family activity at the trampoline park!
Let’s hear from some of our new teachers!
Gregory Peebles, Assistant Head of Secondary, IB Diploma Coordinator
The process of joining the BSB community has been a very warm and welcoming one. It is very clear that BSB is a school that focuses on students first because in the first days back, new teachers to BSB have been able to engage in visual learning activities to make sure we are fostering healthy learning environments for our students.
Kirsten Zondie, Year 1 Teacher
I really enjoyed the “Talk 4 Writing” workshop. It showed how we could give learners the opportunities to express what they think, how they see things from their point of view and how it gives them the opportunity to become creative writers from a young age.
Al Pabelic, Mathematics Teacher
The new staff induction was exceptionally informative, equipping me to navigate the school and its system effectively. I’ve had the privilege of meeting outstanding teachers and experiencing a warm welcome from the school community.
Nancy Rajkumar, Year 2 Teacher
I appreciated that there was an activity organized which included families and that the Principal took time to come and meet and talk with the families.
Lexi Liu, Chemistry Teacher
The orientation schedule for new staff is excellent. Everything went well and smoothly. Each wonderful day started with a warm welcome from the school Leaders. Any questions asked were answered. You can fit into the system easily. Thank you to the school for giving us this fabulous journey.
