Earth Day is on 22nd April this year but BSB came together to celebrate for a whole week! See all the exciting activities we did to help protect our earth.
Everyone can make a difference!
Green and Blue Day for Charity
BSB students and teachers were encouraged to wear blue or green just like the colours of our planet and donate for charity. We raised almost 5000 RMB for MyH2O! Well done!
Earth Hour at BSB
On 19th April, the whole school went electricity free for one hour. We also completed audits of our teaching areas to ensure no wastage of electricity. See our students enjoying their lessons outdoors.
Lessons about saving the planet
KS3 Secondary students wrote an interivew with the Earth to ask how it's doing during their English and EAL lessons.
Year 8 Spanish students wrote an Acrostic poem in Spanish using words related to the topic: "Tierra, reciclar, reducir, sol, cuidar". They finished with the slogan: "Solo tenemos una Tierra. Cuidemosla" which means "We only have one Earth. Let´s take care of it". It was an amazing collaborative and creative work as they practice reciting their poems and created videos too. Excellent work Year 8!
Learning examples in Primary included what's plastic and its impact on the planet; cow milk
and other milk alternatives and the impact it (and the cartons) has on the environment; planting seeds of different herbs and flowers etc.
House Food Waste Competition
Students competing to generate the least amount of food wastage over the course of lunchtime.

Eco Film Festival and Assemblies
Our Eco-Committee did a wonderful job leading the Primary Assemblies this week, teaching students in different year groups about why it’s important for us to protect the earth and what we can do to reduce pollution. They also held an Eco Film Festival (special mention to Alek in Year 5 who premiered his fascinating documentary on melting icecaps at the Film Festival).
2022-2023 Eco-Committee
At BSB Shunyi, we believe that everyone can make a difference. With our commitment to community engagement, our students develop social consciousness as an essential part of school life. In collaboration with UNICEF, all BSB students are challenged to participate in ongoing projects on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) regarding social and economic development issues that we hope to collectively achieve by 2030.
