Twenty-three secondary students represented BSB in the annual ISAC Senior Cross-Country event and ran the 3000m and 5000m at the local Tree Park on Saturday 15th October. This is great to have an athletics event back on between the ISAC sports community.
The U14 students ran 3000m and in the Boys' event - Jeremy Baxter (Year 9) ran superbly for an 8th place finish, with our other 11 boys all finishing between 26th to 55th place. The three girls that ran found the terrain hard to run on but finished just outside the top 30.
The U19 Girls Angela Han (Year 12) and Maria Vassen (Year 13) finished their 5000m event in 3rd and 4th place respectively – a fantastic result for the school. The other two girls competed well in minor places. The Boys' event saw Martin Herman (Year 10) finish a credible 7th place and James Thorp (Year 12) just outside the top 10 in 11th. The other two boys also ended in the top 30.
Congratulations to our more experienced runners who have achieved excellent results. Bravo also to our students who just joined Cross Country and came to try out their new passion on a chilly Saturday morning. The location of the run was not on a well paved track but a local park where the terrain was sometimes quite rough and muddy. Everyone persevered to the finishing line as the rest of the team cheered them on. They have demonstrated great sportsmanship and have achieved more than they thought possible by overcoming this challenge!
All the students were a credit to BSB and the support from the parents was fantastic. A super ISAC community event. Well done to all those that took part for the school.
ISAC is the Beijing International Schools Athletic Conference which allows all the international schools in Beijing and Tianjin to compete in a range of sporting events throughout the academic year. There are nearly 20 schools in the conference and BSB is one of the schools who is able to put teams out from U8 to U19 age groups in a number of different sports and activities, as well as host tournaments, galas, and sport exchanges during the three main seasons run through the year.

Sport at BSB
At BSB, we believe a great education is one that balances academic outcomes, character development, and well-being. Our Physical Education (PE) Curriculum make an important contribution to the education and physical development of our students. All Early Years to Year 11 students have PE lessons each week. In Year 12 and 13, students are encouraged to continue their engagement with sports and physical education as part of the IB Diploma CAS requirement. The aim is to develop physical attributes in a safe and enjoyable environment through sportsmanship, teamwork, cooperation, and competition.
Our BSB Sport Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme is available after school offering a wide range of sports and physical activities suitable for all levels of experience. This includes major Competitive Sports – football, basketball, volleyball, athletics and swimming – as well as fun leisure options – yoga, dance, and Cross Fit HIIT – to help all our students stay active and healthy.
Our BSB Bears and Aqua Bears sports teams compete with success at a high level within the Beijing schools’ sports network and through the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS), International Schools Athletic Conference (ISAC), Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA), and Nord Anglia Education (NAE) competitions for international schools across China and greater Asia.
