Principal’s Update – 27 October, 2021

Dear Parents,
I write to you with an update after a meeting between the local authority and all schools in the Shunyi District, which took place on Sunday evening.

Due to recent confirmed cases in Beijing, we have been requested to strengthen our pandemic prevention and control protocols and would like you to be aware that we are asking our staff to support in the following ways:

• By ensuring that students in Year 1 and above, and staff alike, wear masks at all times, other than during PE, drama and music activities.
• By avoiding unnecessary travel; for the time being, staff are not allowed to travel outside Beijing. 
• By prioritising a booster vaccination as soon as it is available.

We have been asked to postpone or cancel events that involve parents and visitors coming to the school campus and to evaluate any internal school events beforehand, to ensure that safety measures are in place.  In addition, all staff and students are to be tested with a nucleic acid test by the end of December in random samples of 20% in each of 5 testing sessions.  Local clinic personnel will come into school to carry out the testing free of charge. Parents would be informed of the details of this in advance and any family who would prefer to have their child tested privately may do so and provide a certificate as proof of testing at the correct time. More details will follow as we receive dates and times for the testing procedure.  

We wholehearted support measures that are designed to ensure the safety of our community and hope that this is temporary, heightened awareness to avoid greater measures from being necessary. Thank you for your support and understanding and we will be in touch with further details as soon as we have them.
