The 4th Annual BRITMUN conference hosted by BSB Shunyi, took place from the 6th to 8th of December 2019. It was a successful event with over a hundred students participating from CISB, ISB, BWYA, BIBA and Daystar Academy apart from our very own BSB students. Over the course of the 3 days, delegates debated on several contemporary topics that particularly impact the youth of today. It was wonderful to see the students muster up the courage to engage in valuable debates. The exemplary efforts of the Executive Committee of BRITMUN comprising of students from Years 9-13, in organising an event of this scale, is to be applauded.
We asked Year 13 Jeremy Cao who served as Secretary General of this year's BRITMUN and Seungwook Kim who served as Deputy Secretary to share their thoughts on the BRITMUN conference and their involvement in other conferences.
Jeremy Cao - Secretary General
It is with great pride that I can say this year’s conference has been quite a success. Over the weekend, we had delegates from numerous schools across Beijing debating issues of great significance, ranging from the threat of cyberterrorism to the safe disposal of nuclear waste. The quality of debate has certainly improved from previous years and delegates were more engaged than ever. Planning the conference has not been easy – it’s been rather painful, really, with all the deadlines – but I’d say it’s been worth it.
BRITMUN 2019 has been a fitting end to my MUN career at this school, and this year I’ve been granted the honor of being the Secretary-General. It’s been a fixture of my high school life, and something I’ve always loved being involved with. As the last MUN conference at BSB, I’m glad of what we on the executive team have accomplished and wish only the best for whoever takes over our positions at next year’s BRITMUN conference.
Seungwook Kim - Deputy Secretary General
I served as the Deputy Secretary General of BRITMUN 2019. Over the course of the 3 days of the conference, I – along with the rest of the Secretariat – was responsible for making sure the conference runs smoothly.
I am proud of what we have accomplished, especially as we spent months preparing for this conference. As I stated in my closing speech, this will be my last MUN experience, and one I will never forget.
