Through our Science topic, Year 2 have been getting hands on while learning all about materials and their properties.

Since the beginning of the Autumn term the children have had the opportunity to learn about materials in lots of different ways. They have been able to observe and identify materials in the environment around us, take and label photos and physically test material properties by manipulating them.

Making links to our Dungeons and Dragons topic, the children recently got the opportunity to plan their own experiment to find out what material would make the best string for a bow and arrow. The children were provided with a variety of materials to test. They then identified the variables involved in the experiment and made their own predictions on what material they though would propel the arrow the furthest based on what they already knew. Next, we headed out onto the playground to test our predictions collaboratively.

The Year 2 children had a fantastic time learned some valuable and applicable information!
