This week in English the Year 2 children delved deeper into their topic of Dungeons and Dragons, continuing to learn about William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hastings.
After using different websites and information books to learn more about the former Duke of Normandy, the children in the Elephants, Monkeys, Alligators and Pandas classes, planned their own non-chronological reports. This was started by them first making notes about William’s early life, when he became the Duke of Normandy and the Battle of Hastings which led to him becoming the King of England.
These notes were then grouped according to the sub-headings chosen by the children. Some children also used the story mapping method to draw pictures to support them in their writing. Using their Self-Regulation and Independent Be Ambitious skills, the children have been editing and improving their work, ready to write their non-chronological reports in neat.
If you don’t know much about this spectacular moment in history, be sure to ask one of Year 2 pupils who will be more than happy to share their learning with you!
