This week in Year 2, the children began reading their key text, Meerkat Mail.
In it, the main character, Sunny the meerkat, decides to leave his family in the Kalahari desert, in search of a perfect place. After reading the first few pages of the books, the Pandas, Elephants, Monkeys and Alligators, used their Connection Finding skills to predict where Sunny might go.
Deciding on a range of locations including the North Pole, Spain, Antarctica, London and the jungle, the children then used paints and water colours to paint their 'perfect destination'.
In our English lessons, the Year 2 were reminded of adjectives and used these to describe their chosen locations for Sunny. Making links to their own experiences, they also thought about what Sunny might take with him in his suitcase, when leaving his family. Using their independent skills, the children then wrote lists using bullet points.
Their learning will be moved on next week when they use their collaboration skills to retell the story of Meerkat Mail and role play different parts of the story.
