Last month, BSB Sanlitun had a Maths Week where the focus was encouraging entrepreneurship amongst our pupils. Each year group came up with an original way of raising money for our chosen charity - New Hope Foundation.

A few weeks before Maths Week, the children met Robin Hill, one of the founders of New Hope Foundation, in our Monday assembly. The children at BSB Sanlitun learnt about the wonderful work they do at New Hope Foundation, including taking care of terminally ill orphans, nursing young orphans to health and providing opportunities for children with severe disabilities to have life-saving operations. At the end of the assembly, there was no doubt that the entire school were in agreement that the Student Council had chosen a worthy cause.
Over the course of the week, children across the school came up with fantastic ideas of how to raise money. It was then down to them to plan, organise and execute these fantastic ideas, including a garden party in Nursery, a toy sale in Year 1 and a school disco in Year 4.
It was fantastic to see such fantastic, cross curricular learning taking place across the school with all the pupils wanting to raise as much money as possible for New Hope Foundation.
With all these exciting events taking place during the final weeks of term, it wasn’t until the penultimate week of the term when we had collected all the money. In total an incredible amount of 35642.80 RMB was raised!
On Thursday, Miss Henderson and I accompanied some of the Student Council members to New Hope Foundation to present them with the cheque and also meet some of the lovely children in their care.
As ever, the pupils were fantastic representatives of BSB Sanlitun, asking sensible questions and behaving fantastically. It was also wonderful to see them interact with the young children in such a caring and positive manner.
Whilst the pupils played a huge role in raising the money for New Hope Foundation, I would also like to say a huge thank you to all our parents and carers and the entire school community for supporting the children with their ideas and fundraising efforts.
Maths Week was certainly a success here at BSB Sanlitun and we are already looking forward to Maths Week 2018. BRING IT ON!
