Hudson is overjoyed as he gets to see his winning design turned into a real pollution mask. His colorful design features his hand drawn image of the iconic Great Wall as well as the Chinese characters for ‘Beijing.’ Cambridge chose Hudson’s design due to the iconic image and vivid colours and felt it really summed up the city that we live in.
I got the lucky job of showing Hudson his amazing design up close today after waiting for weeks for its arrival. Both he and his friends were very excited to open the box and reveal the masks for the first time. Examining the mask he stated. “It looks exactly like my design!” and his friends thought that it was very cool. Hudson never thought he was going to win the competition, it just shows if you try, anything is possible!
Over 200 masks were ordered after Hudson’s design was announced as the overall winner, as part of our MIT challenge ‘Curious Cities.’ And children, parents and teachers now all have their hands on their very own Great Wall pollution mask. The competition has been a real success. It was fantastic to see all of the designs that were submitted back in January, we certainly have some very talented artists here at BSB Sanlitun. Huge congratulations to Hudson! Now all we need is a polluted day so that we can wear them! Although, I wouldn’t quite wish for that!
