On Tuesday 9th May, Year 2 went to Green Cow Farm.
The trip began in the farm house where the children ate their snack while listening to the farmer who told us lots of interesting facts about the farm. We discovered that all the produce is organic and no chemicals are used. We were also shown where the toilets were – which were compost toilets that didn’t have a flush!
Our tour of the farm then began. The children had a hands on experience with corn shelling and grinding, milking cows and feeding the pigs and chickens. There was even a little piglet which was only 5 days old! It was a sensory overload; warm milk, noisy chickens and smelly pigs! We saw a wide range of crops being grown, from potatoes under the ground to lemon trees in the green house. All the workers worked by hand and no machinery was being used.
It was a fun day out – but certainly looked like hard work to maintain the farm!
