After weeks of hard work, auditions, practices and even the occasional temper tantrum, last Friday the final of the annual talent competition: ‘Sanlitun’s got Talent took place. The final 8 acts took to the stage to produce a spectacular and diverse show full of fun, laughter and remarkable creative ability.

Hosting the proceedings were two Year 6 children Jai and Cecily.

First up to perform was Year 1 student Clovis Lim, who, at such a young age showed fantastic piano skills accompanied by a backdrop which included some of his own artwork. Second up was one of last year’s runners up Thea Shi. This year she decided to play the piano rather than sing, and she produced a stunning performance showing a mind-boggling level of technical ability,

Next we were treated to a vocal master class from the Yilmaz sisters, Mia and Kaila. Both girls had previously been finalists in the competition. This year they joined forces and showed what brilliantly gifted singers they are again with a lovely rendition of Hey Ho by the Lumineers.

Yuna Oen from Year 1 was on the stage next showing amazing poise and confidence with some beautifully elegant ballet dancing. The audience fell silent as she meandered around the stage with impressive grace and style.

Ryan Looi was up next, exciting the audience with a brilliantly choreographed Kung Fu routine. To a dramatic and exhilarating sound track, Ryan kicked, flipped, jumped and punched his way around the stage with incredible agility and power, displaying the raw beauty of the ancient martial art of Kung Fu.

The competition’s ever first Mime act, The Mimey Mimers were up next, providing and entertaining hectic and hilarious show along with a multitude of (invisible) props. The younger members of the audience, seated at the front of the hall were screaming with laughter as Year 6 girls, Sophie, Alix and Soyoon amused them with their comical antics.

Our second dance act of the show, Josie Strauss has only been at the school for a few months, but showed us all how lucky we are to have such her fantastic talent with us at BSB Sanlitun. Her contemporary dance routine to Coldplay’s Viva la Vida contained some beautiful movement and composure.

Closing the show was the all singing, all dancing girl band The Rising Stars consisting of Year 6 girls, Megan, Chloe, Annie and Sophia. A well-rehearsed, high energy and, at times acrobatic dance routine accompanied some strong vocals in what proved to be a fitting way to draw the event to a close.

The eventual winners were the hilarious mime artists Mimey Mimers, Alix, Sophie and Soyoon  stood up in disbelief as their names were announced delighted to have received the title of SGT Winners 2017.
