On Thursday 10th March, four children from Year 6: Jason, June, Kevin and Pei-Jen went with Ms Jurgensen to Guangzhou for the FOBISIA Maths Challenge, 2016.
At The British School of Guangzhou, we were tested on lots of different challenges, both individually and as a team. Some of the team challengs were hard but also fun at the same time. In one task, we had to use a compass to find clues following the Maths Trail around the school. In the construction challenge, we were asked to design a marble run the same size of an A4 card using 4 pieces of paper and make it run as many seconds as possible. We did a really good job on this and got ours run for 9 seconds! It was really important for us to collaborate and to question each other’s ideas. The individual tests were extremely challenging - some of the questions were designed for secondary school students!
Well, it was not all work though. On one evening, we went on a boat trip along the Pearl River which was fun, but just a little chilly.

There were 30 schools represented at the Challenge and 120 children competing in the individual competition. We are very proud of all of the children who took part in the competition.
They worked well individually and as a team and did a great job supporting each other.
