What Does It Mean to Be an Innovator?
Year 9 students Nakshatra and Edith proudly represented BIS Houston as finalists at the Nord Anglia-MIT Challenge this October. They joined 65 other Nord Anglia students for an unforgettable experience at MIT, one of the world’s most prestigious universities.
Through our collaboration with MIT, BIS Houston’s STEAM programme inspires students to develop creativity and problem-solving skills by addressing real-world challenges. This partnership ensures our students are equipped to navigate and tackle global issues with innovative solutions.
Each year, Nord Anglia students have the opportunity to visit MIT, immersing themselves in a culture of hands-on learning. During the trip, they meet renowned MIT scientists, participate in workshops, and explore cutting-edge discoveries that will shape the future. Activities range from building robots to bioengineering and coding. Students also visit MIT and Harvard, experiencing life at two of the world’s top universities and gaining insights into their academic environments.
We asked Edith to reflect on what this extraordinary opportunity meant to her:
*"I’ve been passionate about tech and innovation from a young age, so when I saw the chance to visit MIT—the epicenter of groundbreaking discoveries—I knew I had to try. The experience was truly life-changing. I began thinking from new perspectives, and being surrounded by a community of peers from around the world made it even more special.
Learning from both MIT faculty and my fellow students, I’ve already started applying the knowledge and skills I gained to my everyday life. This trip will forever be a highlight of my educational journey, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to participate!"*
— Edith, Year 9, BIS Houston
This trip exemplifies the transformative experiences and opportunities that go beyond the classroom, preparing our students to lead and innovate in an ever-evolving world.
At BIS Houston, we are proud to provide opportunities that help students unlock their potential, ignite their curiosity, and take steps to create their future.
