It's the summer holidays!
British International School Ho Chi Minh City sent 3 teams to the Intermediate Saigon Mathematics Competition held at the American International School on Saturday 11th January. This competition brings together some of the brightest mathematicians form 19 international schools in Ho Chi Minh City to test their group and individual mathematical skills.
BIS 1 were Year 9 students; Benz Pham, Edric Chen, Billy Na and Alina Shin, BIS 2 were Year 10s; WooHyung Lim, Dong Young Kim, Elvin Hong and Sang Won Ryu with BIS 3 comprising of; Jane Chang, Sean Sia, Andrew Vu and Geon Hee Kim, also from Year 10. The competition proved hugely successful. Out of 19 teams, BIS took the top 3 spots with BIS 2 finishing third, BIS 3 finishing second and BIS 1 finishing as overall champions! Success was shared throughout the teams with BIS 1 winning the Combined Individual, Puzzle and Relay rounds, BIS 3 winning the Puzzle round and BIS 2 grabbing second in the Passback. The students won so many certificates and trophies they had a hard task taking them home! Special mentions go to Billy, Dong Young and WooHyoung who came first, second and third respectively in the Individual round. The competition served as excellent preparation for the upcoming SEAMC contest. We look forward to celebrating more success soon!
Competing student Billy said: "The Intermediate Saigon Maths Competition was a very nice experience for me and the whole SEAMC squad. We had multiple rounds where we could contest in individual and in a team of four. There were several different rounds: passback, puzzle, individual etc. There were a lot of teams from different schools, but BIS HCMC got first, second, and third place for the overall team round. I personally think SMC was a really valuable experience and good preparation for SEAMC in February."

Last month we were proud to have three student ambassadors attend this year’s NAE-UNICEF Student Summit, hosted for the first time ever in Houston, Texas from 12 to 19 June 2024. The event was hosted at Nord Anglia’s two schools in the city: The Village School and the British International School of Houston. Houston was chosen as the ideal location for the Summit thanks to being the first officially recognised “Child-Friendly City” in the United States of America.
