Language in Focus Celebrates Korean
Wow! It has been a whole year since Language in Focus was launched at BIS Primary. We have already learnt about Polish, German, Malay, Thai and now Korean. It has been so much fun exploring lots of different cultures.
A few weeks ago, we had a very special assembly in which we celebrated the Korean language and some aspects of South Korean culture as part of our Language in Focus project, designed to celebrate the different languages and cultures represented by the children here at BIS HCMC.
In the assembly, two fantastic students from Years 5 and 6 hosted an exciting quiz and tested two teams on their Korean knowledge. The teams were made up of one teacher and two students and it was brilliant to see a variety of nationalities having so much fun in Korean together.
For the rest of the term, students and teachers have the opportunity to engage with Korean by trying to use some of the phrases from the 'Let's Speak Korean' video, as well as taking part in quizzes both in class and in assemblies. Be sure to have a look at the display outside the canteen to brush up on your knowledge of Korean!
There is also our Language in Focus blog where you can find lots more information and activities on all of the languages we have celebrated so far.
Last Tuesday 17th September our Early Years and Primary students and staff excitedly came together to celebrate Moon Festival. Also known as Mid- Autumn Festival and ‘Tết Trung Thu’ in Vietnamese, Moon Festival is a significant cultural event in Vietnam. It’s held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the year. This is also one of the highlights of international school life here at BIS HCMC as we value and respect the significance and embrace the culture and traditions of our beautiful host country, Vietnam.
