Andy Dang, a Year 8 student here at the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City has recently returned from the Kids Golf World Championships in Malaysia as champion of his division.

On 13th-15th December 2017, the U.S Kids Golf Foundation held the Kids Golf World Championships (Asian and Australasian regional division) at Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort in Johor, Malaysia. This is the 6th consecutive year that the tournament has taken place in Malaysia and the 5th consecutive year that Andy has competed in the championships.

There are 3 official rounds during the competition with a total of 54 holes, taking place over 3 consecutive days. This makes for an extremely challenging competition but with sheer focus, determination and ambition, Andy was able to successfully finish the tournament in 1st place for the second time since he started competing.

  • 2017 – 1st place – Boys division 12
  • 2016 – 3rd place– Boys division 11
  • 2015 – 1st place – Boys division 10
  • 2014 – 1st runner up – Boys division 9
  • 2013 – 1st runner up – Boys division 8

This result is an outstanding achievement as there were a total of 23 countries participating with over 250 golfers and 80 golfers in Andy’s age group division.

Andy was inspired to start playing golf by his father at the age of 5. This was the same time he started his primary education at BIS HCMC therefore we have been lucky enough to watch Andy grow and develop over the past 7 years into the champion golfer that he is today.

On behalf of the BIS community we’d like to say huge congratulations to Andy on, once again, another fantastic sporting achievement.
