BIS HCMC Staff Community Inset 2017
Community service projects play an integral part of life at BIS HCMC. With training each year, staff get a chance to experience exactly what it is like to take part in a community activity. Our Community Inset Mornings aim to offer fun and engaging activities and resources to our community partners which may not normally be accessible to them.
Community service projects play an integral part of life at BIS HCMC. Throughout the year, each student will take part in their year group community project. In addition to this, students can sign up to take part in many of the community ECA’s and events that are on offer all year round.
Not only is community service a big part of student life at BIS HCMC, it is also important for both new and existing staff. With training each year, staff get a chance to experience exactly what it is like to take part in a community activity. Our Community Inset Mornings aim to offer fun and engaging activities and resources to our community partners which may not normally be accessible to them. It also provides our teaching staff with an opportunity to develop an understanding of their individual community partners.
The Community Inset is a whole school initiative and this year, took place over two days across our TX, APP and APS campuses.
Primary Staff Community Inset
Primary teachers and teaching assistants from our APP and TX campuses were firstly organised into their year groups. The teachers were then tasked with creating a simple and fun activity for their visiting community partners, either on campus or at their partners’ school.
The morning was a great success. F1/F2 and Year 6 received an informative presentation from their new partners; Animal, Rescue and Care (F1&F2) and Endangered Asian Species Trust (Year 6).
F3 teachers hosted some craft and playground activities with children from Binh Tho School, whilst Year 5 created games for children from Binh Trieu School.
Year 1 teachers met the children at Thien Phuoc Foster Home for Disabled Children and Year 2 visited Anh Minh School to lead fun activities with the children who will be taking part in the community project with BIS HCMC this year.
Year 3 and Year 4 went to their partners Giong On To School and Nguyen Hien School to lead English and craft activities with the students.
Lastly, our specialist and EAL teachers hosted a visit from Binh An School where they took part in sports, craft, music and ICT activities!
Secondary Staff Community Inset
Secondary staff were organised in ILS and subject groups such as Maths, English, Science and PE.
The teachers were once again tasked with creating a simple and fun activity for visiting community partners, either on campus or at the partners’ school. This time it was based on their own subject.
Another successful morning was had by all. Year 10 ILS teachers hosted a party for children of Mai Tam House of Hope, Science teachers created exciting activities for students from Tran Quoc Toan School and the PE department, along with other teachers had lots of fun on the field with children from Poussières de Vie (PdV).
The offsite visits saw the Year 8 ILS teachers visit their year group partner, Thao Dien Disabled School. English teachers visited Christina Noble Children’s Foundation and Hunyh Van Ngoi School to lead an English lesson and the Maths department designed fun maths games for children at An Binh School.
All of our staff and partners had a very enjoyable morning - what a fantastic way start to the year!
