A passport to higher education across the globe

For our students, their IBDP pathways and academic achievements really do unlock a world of possibilities to attend any university in any country across the world.

In 2024, over half of our students have gone on to universities in the USA or the UK with an almost equal split between these two countries, 28% to the USA and 27% to the UK. This year we have seen an increase in students taking places at top Universities in Canada, South Korea and Singapore.  We also continue to see many of our students going to universities in Australia and Europe, especially the Netherlands.

Alongside completing all parts of the IBDP including their Community, Activity, Service (CAS) project, Theory of Knowledge (TOK) component and Extended Essay (EE), our students also make the most out of every opportunity provided to follow their passions. From leadership positions, community action initiatives, teaching English in local schools and extracurricular performing arts and sports, our graduates gained many more skills and experience beyond the classroom all helping in being offered a place at their dream university.
They are truly global citizens, heading off to these incredible diverse range of universities across the globe studying diverse range of subjects.

Our students were supported every step off the way in their goal of reaching their dream university destination by our dedicated and experienced College and University (CUG) department.

Mr Paul Rispin, Senior College and University Guidance Counsellor was full of praise for the class of 2024. “For this class the university application process began one year ago and many have had to be patient before finally receiving the good news, whilst others have known since January. This process culminates in a huge number of offers students collectively receive from around the world. Celebrating these successes is the highlight of the whole process for me.”

For me what is most impressive is the consistency with which students from BIS HCMC are successful in applying for such elite institutions. For example, this year alone, we have 3 students who are enrolling at Imperial College London which is now ranked as the number 2 university in the world, and no fewer than 5 students enrolling at the University of Toronto. I must congratulate the whole year group on these amazing offers but also thank their teachers for the hard work and support they have given the students.”

Starting from Year 9 and through to Year 11 students have the opportunity for a consultation meeting with a CUG counsellor to help them make their IGCSE and IBDP subject choices. Last academic year we also introduced Careers Workshops where outside guest speakers came in to work with Year 10 students to help inspire some possible future education pathway choices.

The CUG team also deliver wellbeing sessions with Year 11 to assist them in their IBDP choices and with Year 12 and 13 to help them in their University Research.

In Year 12 the support really steps up. Students are allocated their own University Counsellor who they will meet regularly from the midpoint of Year 12 right through to the end of Year 13.  During term 1 of Year 13 our counsellors will meet our students more frequently in the build up to applications being submitted and provide feedback on university essays and applications.

We wish our graduates of 2024 all the best as they start this next chapter in their educational journey and look forward to sharing soon some individual graduate stories as they begin their university journeys.
