Music Performance Mentoring Programme (MPMP) aims to create difference. By receiving constructive advice and support from a group of older and more experienced musicians, younger music students are learning how to play music pieces in a unique and artistic manner. Meaning that whilst following the composer's intentions is important, there are many ways in which their intentions can be interpreted; the same notes can be played in many different ways. Through our mentoring programme we help students to understand this, and shape their ability to create difference when they are playing music in order to stand out from other performers and impress their audience.
“I have learned a lot about singing, being a student of Thuy Linh. We covered aspects of singing such as breathing, singing at the correct pitch and shaping my mouth correctly so that I can pronounce my words well. My lessons with Thuy Linh were packed with fun and interesting facts and I always looked forward to having my lessons with her. “ Caitlin Chua, Year 4
This programme was founded in the month of September last year. We offer piano, violin, flute, cello and voice lessons to students from primary and lower secondary school. In addition to helping musicians become more creative performers in general, we also offer support to those who are taking ABRSM exams such as by training their performing, sight reading and aural skills.
At the end of term 1, we had wonderful feedback from parents who feel that this program is benefitting their children’s performing confidence, abilities and readiness to enter an exam. In addition to improving the performing skills of young musicians, this programme also strives to form positive bonds between the mentors and tutees through music. Both mentors and tutees have great time in sharing their daily and musical experiences.
“The music tutoring program is really useful for me because it has guided me on how to play the piano correctly and has showed techniques and skills to better my ability to play the piano already. “ Tony Dang, Year 7
