Key Dates | Primary Learning Highlights
Dear Parents,
Students in Phase 1 have continued to show commitment to our Virtual School this half term. They have demonstrated that they are resilient, enjoy learning new things and continue to impress their teachers with the work that they are submitting to ClassDojo.
In Year 1, the students have been learning the story ‘Kipper’s Toy Box.’ Students retold their own stories using their toys at home and made sock puppets just like Sock Thing. In Maths, they have continued to use the part-part-whole model, the tens frames and number lines to solve addition and subtraction problems.
Year 2 students have been learning the story ‘Leon and The Place Between’ using Talk for Writing. Students were then able to use this model to change the characters and settings and write their own stories. In Maths, they have continued to practice learning their 2s, 5s and 10s number facts to help them solve multiplication and division problems.
At BIS Hanoi, while academic learning is important, and the students continue to progress and learn new skills through reading, writing, phonics, Maths, Science and topic lessons, we also understand the importance of the social and emotional well-being of our students. Our teachers are passionate about incorporating this into our lessons to help our students develop these areas of learning. In Phase 1 this term, we have introduced a number of new initiatives into the weekly timetable. The response from the students, teachers and parents has been extremely positive.
An example of these initiatives is the introduction of Kumospace. It is an amazing platform that allows our students to play games, interact and most importantly have fun whilst being supervised by a teacher in a safe environment. With Kumospace, our students can play games, chat with their friends, eat virtual pizza, dance, listen to music and relax. We encourage them to talk to their friends and also get to know the new students to make them feel welcome.
In our friendship calls, they are given the opportunity to share news, ask questions, show and tell and make new friends. By allowing students to have this time to interact socially with one another, we hope to ensure a smooth transition for our return to school.
Well done on a great half term Phase 1. Keep working hard!

Our Year 1s have had exciting learning weeks that were full of interesting activities.
They travelled around the world during the International Festival, expressed their gratitude on World Children's Day, played with lots of toys in their IPC topic, and most importantly, enjoyed themselves while acquiring new knowledge and skills every day.
Congratulations to all Year 1 students. We are excited to see where your learning takes you next!
Let's take a look at some amazing moments in Year 1 during the last few weeks.
