Last week was a very exciting week for mathematics at BIS. Students across the Primary School took part in a House Maths competition featuring a variety of different tasks and challenges that the students engaged in across the week.
The tension was palpable on Monday morning, ahead of the first challenges being posted at 09:00, with the students of our 4 Houses (Dalat, Hanoi, Hue, Saigon) raring to get started and win points for their House.
The morning began with a Times-table Rockstars competition between the Houses, with Dalat going head to head with Hanoi and Hue facing off against Saigon. The students had 24 hours to earn as many points as possible for their team before matching up against another House the following day.
The students were also challenged to build a tower out of two materials at home. The tower had to be free standing and points were awarded for both height and creativity. There were some wonderful entries from the students with some towers reaching as high as the ceiling of their homes and using a wonderful diverse range of items such as books, paper cups, bottles of water or even parents!
Finally, daily ‘Problems of the Day’ were posted for students to test and challenge themselves. There were over 600 submissions from students over the course of the week, in what was a wonderful uptake by students and parents alike.
We would like to thank all the students and parents who engaged with House Maths over the course of the week. Your efforts and enthusiasm really helped to create a sense of unity and friendly competition within the school.
At the end of the week, two Problem of the Day winners were chosen. These two students worked exceptionally hard submitting multiple tasks every day and showing fantastic perseverance across the week. Well done to Ryogo in Year 1 and Kiet in Year 4 – your prize will be on the way to you soon!
After all the tower entries, Problems of the Day and TT Rockstars competitions were considered, the eventual winner was Dalat. Well done to everyone in Dalat House!
