On Friday 9th February 2024, St Andrews International School Bangkok students and teachers had the privilege of visiting the Biomedical Engineering Department at Mahidol University.
40 students and 4 teachers representing Computer Science, Design Technology and VEX Robotics were part of this visit. Our school was warmly greeted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn and his team graciously took our group around to visit the various areas where research and development meet innovation and creativity.
At the Center for Biomedical and Robotics Technology Lab (BART LAB), the students were able to observe first-hand and interact with advancements in technologies such as rescue robots and robotic assist systems for medical surgeries. Over at the Smart Motion Analysis and Rehabilitation Technology Lab (SMART LAB) students were given a demonstration of technologies of motion capture systems and robotic exoskeletons that are used in medical rehabilitation.
Finally, at the Innogineer Maker Studio, the group was given a tour of machines like advanced 3D printers and massive industrial laser cutters that students and researchers of the university use to make dreams a reality. This visit was eye-opening and hopefully the start of future collaborations between St Andrews Bangkok and the Biomedical Engineering Department at Mahidol University.
St Andrews High School Students from Years 7 and 8 had a very enjoyable and successful week working on their STEAM MIT Global Challenge: designing a plant that could cope with extreme weather phenomenons in Thailand.
From project start to completion, the students were immersed in marine sustainability, finding solutions which address environmental challenges related to building and implementing artificial coral reefs. Their interdisciplinary work focused on coral reef restoration off the coast of Rayong. Designed to showcase their hard work and present these innovative solutions to experts within the marine field, the project has been supported by Thai Ocean Academy and Aow Thai Marine Ecology Centre (ATMEC), who were also in attendance at the event.
I am delighted to congratulate two of our Year 9 students who entered the recent NAE Global MIT Steam challenge. Carina and Pun Pun entered this competition videoing themselves as they moved through the different stages of their design process to create excellent models.
