Primary and Foundation Stage: Poetry Slam, Tying Knots, Sketching, Healthy Eating, and Growing Rice Rice

Last week saw the Year 6s join the Year 7s over at the High School (HS) campus to share their Poems in the ‘POETRY SLAM’, an annual event where students create a poem on different subjects and are chosen to perform their poems to an excited crowd on the HS Campus.

This year was as fantastic as always and the standard of entries and performances was incredible. This is also a great experience for the Year 6 students to have a day in High School which helps them prepare for next academic year. Congratulations to all those that took part.

Year 5 Learn to Survive by Tying Knots

As part of their survival Topic, Year 5 have been learning knot tying techniques in their lessons. They have been finding out about different knots and how and when to use them, a very useful exercise to learn. Hopefully they can use these skills in the future.

Year 3 Get Sketching in Their Dungeons and Dragons Topic

Enthralled by their current topic of Dungeons and Dragons, the Year 3 children enjoyed using their Step by Step skills to sketch their own dragon eyes, paying close attention to the shapes of the scales and adding detail to give their dragon eyes a sinister look.

After sketching their dragon eyes, the children then used clay to mold and make their dragon eyes. A messy but fun lesson in which the children were able to bring their sketches and ideas to life.

Finally, to conclude the series of art lessons, the children painted their dragon eyes using vibrant colours. The Year 3 children enjoyed being creative and their artwork looks fantastic.

Healthy Eating Week

Week 5 is Healthy Eating Week in Primary School. In lessons, students will learn about the importance of healthy eating and how to choose a healthy meal based on the Eatwell Guide. Students will be encouraged to choose foods from each of the main food groups: starchy carbohydrates, protein, & vegetables. Food trays in the canteen will be labelled and colour-coded to make it easier for students to choose a healthy meal at lunchtimes. We also encourage parents to support this important message with the packed lunches and snacks provided. Specially designed stickers will be given to students making healthy choices at lunchtime.

There are also 2 competitions for students to enter. All participating students will earn House Points, and the best entries will be selected to be displayed around the school. More information about the competitions can be found here: Healthy Eating Competitions

STA Grows its own Rice

Over the last few weeks, Ms Kyomi and some of the students have been growing their own rice in the Secret Garden here at Primary. The rice seed was provided by a local farmer group that Khun Kitty (Head of High School Thai) had contacted for our first World Soil Day in 2021, last year. The seeds came from Khun Suwan Gaewgerd, who is the leader of Rice Family Thailand Group, see below:

Below is a clip all about this group:

Khun Kitty is going to continue to display and plant the rice again this year in the High School Campus. Of course, we are planning the display in front of the office so I have been discussing it with Khun Joy.

About one month ago, Ms Annie (Marketing) posted some pictures and a video on youtube to start blooming the rice seeds. Take a look here

New Snack Shop at STA Primary

Snack

STA Primary has a new snack shop. Epicure, the company that feeds our students at lunchtime, has opened a snack shop by the field. It is selling some nice healthy foods as well as a few treats. The shop will initially be open to the older students (Years 5 and 6) but may be opened up to more students later.

Primary Halloween Poetry Competition

As there were so many 'frighteningly' fabulous entries for the Primary Halloween Poetry Competition, it has taken some time to decide on the winners for each year group. It was so wonderful to see all the great performances and hear all the super poems that were written by the children. They should be so very proud of their efforts, as all the performances were very enjoyable to watch.

To find out the top three winners for each year group, please click on this link.

Try not to be too scared!!!
