Last week we heard the very exciting news that Pim, in Year 8, had won the Best in Show award at the inaugural NAE Film Festival for her fantastic short film, We Create Our Own Future.
Pim’s film also won the Best Animation and Best Music awards, with Pim composing and playing all the music herself. As the judges said, “The conjunction of the music with the animation made for a perfect marriage between the two which helped the audience journey within the powerful imagery.”
As Pim wrote when she submitted her film to the competition:
“These past few years, with the pandemic, hopes for the future seem more difficult to reach. I think everyone can relate to feeling lost about what's to come or what's not to come. However, people all over the world are still trying and working hard and I wanted to highlight that. I made all the music and content. It was something new and I really enjoyed making it.”
The Best in Show award was chosen from all the films that won their categories by Lord David Puttnam, whose films, including The Mission, The Killing Fields, Local Hero, Chariots of Fire, Midnight Express, Bugsy Malone and Memphis Belle, have won numerous Oscars and BAFTAs, as well as the Palme D'Or at Cannes.
Congratulations also to Pun Pun, also in Year 8, who was Highly Commended in the Documentary Film category for Our Sea's Future, a short documentary on marine life and climate change which includes an interview with Alex Rendall, Thailand’s first National Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations Environment Programme.
The importance of the Arts was one of the topics discussed in last week’s Year 6 to 7 Transition Mornings.
It was great to welcome so many Year 6 parents to the High School and, more generally, to be able to welcome parents back into school again. As well as the two Year 6 to 7 Transition Mornings, we also had parents in school for Thursday’s Careers and Higher Education Workshop, and we are all looking forward to next week’s performances of the High School Production: Broadway Mashup
Tickets are already selling fast, but we have reserved seats to some of next week's Matinee performances for Year 6 as part of their next Transition Day, focused on the Arts - an opportunity for the Year 6 students to work with our Art, Dance, Drama and Music teachers, and get a flavour of the five hours each week of specialist teaching in these subjects that they have to look forward to next year.
Below is the updated infographic showing the number, and range, of university offers and acceptances received by Year 13 students. Depending on the country and university, offers are given out at different times and with various application deadlines, we therefore expect this list to continue to grow significantly over the coming weeks and months.
Thank you to all those parents who have already completed the 2022/2023 Survey.
Please can the small number of parents who have not yet completed this do so as soon as possible, as we are already assembling our Classes and Tutor Groups for the next academic year. We understand that some family’s plans may be uncertain at the present time, but we appreciate your support and cooperation in completing the Survey to the best of your ability. Please note that you will need to be logged into a Moodle parent account to complete the survey.
Please remember that all the school's live Google Calendars can be seen via Moodle.
