STA Maths Day

As you will no doubt be aware, Primary and Foundation Stage took part in World Maths Day on the last day of school before the week break. All students made a great effort to dress up in Maths related clothes. There were dice T-shirts, shapes, and lots of numbers on display. Throughout the day, there were many events across the school to promote and celebrate Maths as a subject in our school. Check out the video below showing the students' wonderful experiences from the day. Thank you to all the teachers for helping make the day so special and to all the parents for supporting their children in helping them dress up for the day and of course, a special thank you to Ms Tracey, our Maths Coordinator who oversaw the event and ran the event.

Year 2 Superhero Day

Last term Year 2’s exciting topic was all about Superheroes. Through the Term, the children created original superheroes developed their characters, names, superpowers, stories, logos, costumes, and even sidekicks and nemeses. All this hard work was rewarded with a special Superhero day with everyone dressing up and enjoying special activities such as using a green screen, having superhero challenges, and playing superhero games. We also enjoyed watching the Superworm movie (the book of which was the focus of our English lessons). Thank you to the families for supporting this topic and the teachers who revealed their own inspirational superpowers.

Toys Come to Life in Year 1!

Something strange has been happening recently in Year 1. It all started a couple of weeks ago, when the toys the children had brought in to help us with some activities in class, appeared to have come to life and began causing a little mischief. Nothing too serious at first, and the children began to speculate what might have happened and created their own stories about the incidents. The children used speech bubbles and speech marks to write a narrative of what the toys had been doing.

Then on Tuesday morning, we arrived at school and were alerted to a very serious incident in the Year 1 classrooms. The rooms had been taped off, and we gathered in the Drama Studio while we waited for news. Security finally gave the all clear, and we returned to the classrooms to see that the toys had caused absolute chaos overnight. There was stuff everywhere as the toys had been having a huge party!

We quickly documented all our evidence, taking pictures to post on Seesaw, before tidying up their mess. Mr Paul sent us a serious message, asking for our help figuring out what happened and why. The children used their newly learned letter writing skills to ask the toys if they knew what had happened and why they had done it. The toys responded, exclaiming that they did not know how to play nicely as they had never been told how. The children then quickly decided on some rules for the toys and shared ideas of how to play nicely together.

In the end, the toys were happy and promised not to make such a big mess again. One last thing to do was to write a letter to Mr Paul, explaining why the toys had made such a mess,  letting him know that they had promised not to do it again. The children did a fantastic job in figuring out what had happened. Let's just hope it doesn’t happen again when the children take their toys home, along with their new homemade sock puppet friends…

Year 5s Launch Rockets!

Before the Half-term break and also this week, the Year 5 students have been launching rockets on the school field to show the force needed to fire something into the sky. These water-based rockets have air pumped into them, and then a trigger launches them around 10 metres into the air, to the delight of the Year 5 students and, usually, a crowd of Foundation Stage students that gather to watch the spectacle. This exercise supports the Year 5 topic on Space and gives the students an idea about forces and thrust needed to send rockets vertically upwards against Earth’s gravitational pull. A big thank you to My Jeremy Young, who has, for a number of years now, brought the equipment into school and helped the students set things up safely.

Book Week Coming Soon!

Next will see the very exciting return of Book Week. See the Book Week launch video above where you can find some more details. Throughout the week students will participate in activities designed to get them reading and loving books.

Activities will go on during lessons but also during break times and lunchtimes each day. Highlights to look out for are ‘Buddy Reading’ between classes, acting out famous stories, creating music from stories and designing bookmarks.

Each class will also have some time with our resident author, Ms Pepa, as she shares her latest book with the students and talks about the art of writing. I’m sure this will be an inspiration to us all.

Also, don’t forget that Friday 4th March, it will be time to get your brilliant book character costume ready for the book character parade!

If you have any queries about any of the events next week, please contact your child’s teacher.
