Read on to uncover updates on the upcoming training days for our sports teams, as well as our goal to promote an active and healthy lifestyle in KS3 students… Visit the STA Flames & Marlins Facebook page for the latest news and updates on our sport teams and competitions
Please note that all ball sports training starts this week and that for Football and Basketball, players in Y8 and Y10 should be moving up to train with their next age category, if possible.
All Wednesday U13 Development Basketball players will train with Mr. Ian and Mr. Ollie as part of the regular U13 squads.
Flames Basketball Academy and Saturday Club start this Saturday, 28th April. All Flames squad members are expected to attend the Saturday programme.
We’ll continue to challenge our KS3 students to think about their fitness and developing a healthy, active lifestyle. At the end of this term, they will have a last chance to try to complete the challenge, which is to run 1,500m non-stop. They may tackle this challenge at their own speed - there is no time limit, and no medals for winning!
Our target is for everyone in Year 9 to finish successfully. Y8 and Y7 have a lower target, as they work towards their Y9 challenge.
We know that not everyone is suited to or enjoys running. However, in school, there is a limit placed on our ability to get everyone together doing some low intensity cardiovascular work and running allows us to achieve this. The students will spend no more than 10 minutes doing this low intensity exercise, and given we should all be doing about 30 minutes a day, I hope that our challenge is but a small step in the right direction.
If you’d like to discuss how to get your child more active and fit, please feel free to contact Mr. Ollie.
Just a reminder to join our STA Flames and Marlins Group on Facebook, as we’d like to use this to keep everyone updated on games, training etc. We know that not everyone is a Facebook user, but would recommend you joining the group even if you don’t use Facebook for any other reason.
It’s a very convenient way for us to reach out and share information from wherever we are. We’re also on Instagram and continue to use our St Andrews Facebook page to post photos of our amazing Flames and Marlins in action.
