Find out about Year 3’s adventures during their KS2 residentials...Last Saturday’s Fun Day was an amazing success… There will be a Moodle workshop for parents on Tuesday, 6th February...Meet our newest member of staff, Caitlin Cassidy.
Last week, Year 3 started off the KS2 residentials with a trip to iCamp in Kanchanaburi. I was very lucky to be able to go along with the Year 3s on their residential away from Bangkok. The children spent a night at the camp, which is set in the beautiful hills about 30 km outside the town. The camp is an adventure paradise with lots of different activities to keep everyone busy- an assault course, a water obstacle course, football, badminton, Ga-ga-ball, basketball, tennis and much more. The students also got to stay in the large bunk rooms with their friends, adding another exciting element to the trip. The marshmallow toasting and the big dance off made the evening fun, along with the chance to use the torches that everyone brought along.
I’d like to say a huge thank you and well done to the students who were incredibly well behaved throughout and were shining examples of what our school is all about. Big thanks also go to the STA staff who attended and and sure that everyone had a great, safe time. Finally, our thanks go to the iCamp staff who made this trip so memorable for the students. Their enthusiasm and energy is boundless!
Here’s what the students had to say:
On behalf of KS2 I would like to say a huge thank you to the PTG for organising another amazing Fun Day at St Andrews. It’s surprising how they manage to surpass themselves year on year, but this event just goes from strength to strength. It’s lovely to see the students and parents mingle with the STA staff in such a relaxed atmosphere. This is one of the key events that really helps promote our community and makes us such a unique school in Bangkok. Thanks also go to all of the teachers and LSAs who got involved in helping keep things running smoothly across the rides.
The Talent Show was an amazing showcase of how great and diverse our students are. From musical acts on piano, drums, violin and ukulele to dancers, and even a ventriloquist act and someone playing bottles. There was also a guest appearance from the famous Thai pop star, Khun Suthipongse (Heart) Thatphithakkul, of Byrd and Heart fame. He was accompanying Eames from Year 5 who performed a song written by her (lyrics and music). Khun Heart helped arrange the song and has appeared on stage with Eames on a couple of occasions. Keep an eye out for this star of the future.
Also, well done to The Shoelaces - Yim, Tara, Rehanna and Pearie from Year 6 - our only band who performed alongside the High School students.
On Tuesday 6 February there will be a Moodle Workshop for Parents, held at 8.00 a.m. in the Drama Studio.
If your family arrived in Term 2, or part way through Term 1, it may be useful for you to come along and find out the basics of navigating your way around Moodle. Please register using the sign-up email sent to you last week, or by contacting the office.
You may know that St Andrews International School Bangkok prides itself on employing specialist staff to support all of the children in the Primary School - including Speech and Language Therapists, an Art Therapy Counsellor, a Physical Therapist and a Play Therapist.
This term we have been lucky enough to retain the services of Caitlin Cassidy, an experienced Occupational Therapist.
Occupational therapy is a health profession that enables people to engage in developmentally appropriate activities that make up daily life. For school age children, occupational therapists work to ensure that a student can participate in the full breadth of school activities—from paying attention in class; concentrating on the task at hand; holding a pencil, musical instrument, or book in the easiest way; or just behaving appropriately in class. They look at why a child might be having difficulties managing his or her daily activities (occupations) and what can be done to help them participate to their full potential.
Before joining St Andrews, some children have had assessments that have recommended a course of OT. With Caitlin on staff, hopefully more children can access OT during the school day or early afternoon. We look forward to working with her.
Please contact Mrs Carys (carys.wi@standrews.ac.th) if you would like any more information about Occupational Therapy.
